How much will leaders need to transform finance to capitalise on global energy trends?

I had an interesting conversation with a client recently regarding the strategic role that leaders play in spearheading energy-projects and financial change.

It begged the question - How much will leaders need to transform finance to capitalise on global energy trends?

As the global energy generation and utility world becomes greener and more de-centralised, there will be an increased need for back-end finance functions to transform the way they operate. CFO’s and finance leaders alike must facilitate this change.

Should functions of a service-like nature, be centralised company-wide including offshoring or even outsourcing? Functions such as performance controlling, which are close to business operations will see more ‘de-centralisation' as business models become more diverse to expanding renewable energy markets and energy storage.

I would like to know your thoughts and opinions, as energy portfolios diversify and utilities become increasingly reliant on new technologies.
