What would you tell your newly qualified self?

Posting date: 26 Mar 2019

Would you take more risks, read more, live more, take a break from climbing the ladder or push on full steam ahead?

In an exclusive white paper, we interview three incredible finance professionals who have taken drastically different career paths and ask them all one question.

What would you tell your newly qualified self?

We speak to a Group Head of Internal Audit who stayed in Practice until he hit senior management level and then went into industry; a Finance Director with a taste for corporate life who left Practice after graduation and a Senior Manager at PwC who left Practice some years ago to embark on a role in industry; after a three-year break, she returned to Practice and doesn’t plan to leave again.

This is one of the invaluable pieces of advice given in our white paper: “Say yes more, take the opportunities that come your way and build as much of a career experience as you possibly can. It’s possible in finance; especially in FP&A or Audit, to get promoted quite quickly but I think you are weaker forward if you don’t have a breadth of experience behind you first. Say yes, take those opportunities, don’t be afraid of doing different roles as that will make you stronger and don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty, you will and you have to.”
