Job Title:
Head of Group Tax

Stanton House is partnering with a highly successful, private equity-backed firm that has recently been acquired by a large-cap PE fund. The company operates in the B2B information and data services sector and is experiencing a strong growth trajectory.

Following a period of sustained growth and a transformative acquisition that has doubled the size of the business and significantly expanded its US footprint, our client is seeking a Head of Group Tax. This position represents an exciting opportunity to lead, shape, and build the tax function in a high-growth, PE-backed business.

The successful candidate will be the most senior tax professional in the business and will operate as a hands-on, commercially aware subject matter expert. Initially a standalone role with scope of expansion, the position will work closely with external advisors and oversee all aspects of group tax, corporate, international, indirect, and transactional, while also supporting strategic initiatives such as M&A and group restructuring.

This is a high-impact, high-visibility role working closely with the CFO, Director of Financial Control and the wider senior leadership team, with significant opportunity for progression as the business scales and the tax function grows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and lead the global tax function, acting as the business's go-to expert on all tax matters
  • Manage relationships with external tax advisors and ensure compliance across all jurisdictions
  • Provide strategic tax input on M&A transactions, including due diligence, structuring, and integration
  • Oversee day-to-day tax operations, including UK VAT, sales tax, international filings, and corporate tax compliance
  • Support the CFO and Director of Financial Control on cash and tax transaction planning and optimisation
  • Develop and implement group-wide transfer pricing policies and maintain supporting documentation
  • Lead the tax workstream for a number of key projects including the restructuring of the group's legal and financial architecture
  • Take ownership of international tax treaty positions and manage cross-border issues
  • Design and implement scalable tax processes, policies, and internal governance structures
  • Deliver training, guidance, and practical support to finance and commercial teams to embed tax awareness across the business
  • Act as a strategic advisor to the CFO and Director of Financial Control on global tax risk, structuring, and tax implications of business strategy
  • Lead the procurement function, providing strategic direction to the Procurement Manager, focusing on cost reductions and improving ESG performance within the supplier base.

Required Experience

  • CTA qualified (or equivalent); ACA/ACCA also welcomed with significant tax specialism
  • Experience in a PE-backed or highly acquisitive business is essential
  • Strong M&A tax experience, including due diligence and structuring
  • International tax experience required specifically US, including cross-border transactions, treaties, and transfer pricing
  • Background in B2B sectors preferred
  • Blend of Big 4/advisory and in-house experience ideal
  • Experience building or modernising a tax function in a growing business is highly desirable
  • Hands-on, pragmatic, and delivery-focused, comfortable owning tax end-to-end, not just advising
  • The ability to work at pace with multiple deliverables on the go at anyone time
  • Appetite to build a tax function and develop in-house capability from the ground up
  • Commercial and strategic, with strong technical expertise and business acumen
  • Capable of operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment with competing priorities
  • Strong communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders and explain complex tax issues clearly
  • High integrity and discretion, especially when handling sensitive transaction and restructuring work
