Location: Birmingham (hybrid - 3 days a week)
Day Rate: £700-£800pd (IR35 TBC)
Reporting To: Chief Financial Officer
Start Date: ASAP

A PE-backed mid-market Professional Services businesses (£60m) are seeking an experienced Group Financial Controller to play a key leadership role within Group Finance. This position will be instrumental in developing a unified, high-performing finance function capable of supporting a strategy centred on organic growth and acquisitions.

Reporting to the CFO, the role will lead the integration of three separate finance teams into a single Group Finance function, ensuring robust systems, processes, and governance are in place to support scalable growth, improve efficiency, and deliver high-quality financial insight to stakeholders.

You will play a central role in strengthening reporting, controls, and finance capability, while embedding a culture of continuous improvement across the function.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and deliver the strategy for the ongoing development of the Finance function, adopting best practice processes and technology.
  • Lead the integration of finance teams into a single Group function, driving efficiencies and consistent service delivery.
  • Establish a centralised transactional processing model, ensuring compliant and efficient operations.
  • Develop robust management reporting to support internal stakeholders, investors, and lenders.
  • Own planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes, strengthening business partnering and performance insight.
  • Oversee cash management, finance systems, and end-to-end processes, ensuring strong governance and controls.
  • Lead, develop, and motivate the Finance team, embedding a high-performance and continuous improvement culture (team of 11 with 6 direct reports)

To Be Suitable
  • Proven experience leading a Finance function through growth, change, or transformation.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate teams through change.
  • Experience of systems implementation and finance transformation initiatives.
  • Commercially minded with a pragmatic, hands-on approach when required.
  • Strong analytical capability and ability to translate data into actionable insight.
  • Collaborative leadership style with strong stakeholder management skills.
