Salary: Circa £120,000 + car allowance + bonus
Location: London with regular travel to project sites. 2-3 days a week in office.

Stanton House are partnering with a leading UK construction and project delivery business to appoint a Finance Director within a specialist business unit entering a significant growth phase.

Having recently completed several major projects, the business is now positioned to secure and deliver a substantial pipeline of future work across large-scale developments and complex project environments. The finance function is highly regarded within the organisation, with finance leaders playing a visible and influential role in operational and strategic decision-making.

Role

This is a commercially focused finance leadership position working directly alongside the Business Unit Managing Director and Senior Leadership Team.
The successful candidate will act as the key finance partner to the business, providing financial insight, challenge and guidance to support commercial decision-making, project performance and future growth. While the role operates at Finance Director level, it sits within a lean structure and requires an individual who is comfortable balancing strategic business partnering with hands-on financial leadership.
The position would suit either:

• An experienced finance leader seeking a highly commercial, standalone leadership position.
• A high-potential Senior Finance Manager or Senior Finance Business Partner ready to step into their first Finance Director-level opportunity.

Responsibilities

• Partner closely with the Business Unit Managing Director and Senior Leadership Team to support decision-making.
• Lead annual business planning, budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Provide financial insight, analysis and challenge across commercial decisions, risks and opportunities.
• Support the evaluation of bids, contracts and new business opportunities.
• Deliver accurate, timely and compliant financial reporting.
• Maintain ownership of the business unit's financial controls, governance and reporting framework.
• Monitor business performance through financial metrics, KPIs and operational reporting.
• Support project performance, cost control and working capital management initiatives.
• Identify financial risks and support mitigation strategies.
• Lead engagement with external auditors across the project portfolio.
• Ensure compliance with contractual, audit and reporting requirements.
• Support the ongoing improvement of finance processes, controls and ways of working.
• Build strong relationships with operational and commercial stakeholders across projects and sites.
• Contribute strategically as a member of the senior leadership team, helping shape future business direction.

Requirements

Essential

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Significant experience within finance business partnering, commercial finance or operational finance leadership roles.
• Experience supporting large-scale construction or infrastructure projects.
• Experience operating at a senior level within a business unit, division or project-led environment.
• Strong financial planning, forecasting and reporting capability.
• Proven ability to influence and support non-finance stakeholders.
• Strong commercial acumen and financial modelling skills.
• Experience managing financial performance, budgets and business plans.
• Knowledge of financial governance, controls and risk management frameworks.
• Ability to operate effectively within a lean structure and manage both strategic and operational responsibilities.
• Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building capability.
• Construction, infrastructure or project-based sector experience.
• Understanding of long-term contract accounting and project-led financial environments.

Desired

• ACA qualification and previous exposure to Big 4 accountancy training.
• Track record of improving finance processes, controls and reporting frameworks.
• Experience assessing bids, contracts and commercial opportunities.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain UK Government Security Clearance.
• Experience operating within a growth environment undergoing significant change or expansion.
• Demonstrated ability to balance commercial business partnering with robust financial stewardship.
