Job Title:
Interim Financial Controller

A large, complex UK-based organisation with significant revenue and multiple business units is building out a centralised Financial Accounting and Controls function. This newly established team is focused on strengthening governance, embedding consistent accounting policies, and improving the control environment across the group. The business offers breadth of exposure across finance and the opportunity to influence standards and practices at scale.

This position sits within a newly formed accounting and controls team with a remit across the wider finance function. The role combines entity-level financial oversight with responsibility for designing, implementing, and monitoring financial controls.

• Direct exposure to technical accounting, controls design, and governance frameworks
• Involvement in control transformation and process improvement
• Regular interaction with senior stakeholders, audit teams, and risk functions
Responsibilities
• Take ownership of legal entity financial control activities, including review and analysis
• Ensure accounting treatments align with relevant standards and internal policy
• Provide technical accounting guidance to finance and business teams
• Prepare accounting position papers for internal and external stakeholders
• Act as a key contact for internal audit, external audit, and risk functions
• Design and implement financial controls, including process mapping and risk assessment
• Support rollout of a consistent financial control framework across business units
• Review and challenge process documentation and risk and control assessments
• Perform independent testing of control design effectiveness
• Monitor and report on control effectiveness through structured reporting processes
• Lead remediation activities for control weaknesses and drive timely resolution
• Review and approve control testing plans and final reports
• Support adoption and governance of end user computing controls
• Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and implement best practice
• Contribute to finance projects including new standards, systems, and transformation initiatives
• Promote a strong controls and compliance culture across finance
Requirements

• Qualified accountant with significant post qualification experience
• Strong technical accounting knowledge, including IFRS 9, 15 and 16
• Experience in financial controls, risk, and compliance
• Background in audit
• Proven stakeholder management and communication skills
• Strong analytical capability with attention to detail
• Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills
• Experience with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle
