An investor-backed (family office) buy-and-build group operating in the services sector. The group currently comprises two trading businesses, with under 100 employees and sub-£10m turnover.
Having completed initial acquisitions, the business is now focused on integration and organic growth, with a clear ambition to continue building out the platform over time. This is an opportunity to support a hands-on Managing Director and leadership team in shaping a scalable and effective finance function.
This is a high-impact fractional role, ideal for a commercially minded CFO who enjoys working in SME environments and driving tangible improvements in finance operations.
Key Responsibilities
Own and enhance the monthly management accounting process, delivering accurate and insightful reporting.
Develop and maintain a robust 3-month rolling cashflow forecast for the group.
Conduct a full diagnostic review of the finance function across both sites.
Design and implement an improved finance structure aligned to business needs.
Drive process improvements, including systems, automation, and reporting efficiency.
Provide financial insight and support to the Managing Director to aid decision-making.
Support ongoing integration of the group’s operating businesses.
To Be Suitable
Proven experience in PE-backed buy-and-build environments, ideally within business services.
Strong M&A and post-acquisition integration experience (preferred).
Excellent technical skills, particularly in financial modelling and forecasting.
Experience implementing systems, improving processes, and leveraging automation/AI.
Background working within SME businesses (sub-£20m turnover).
Hands-on and pragmatic approach, comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels.
