Sales Engineer (US Market)
A fast-growing cybersecurity vendor is hiring a Sales Engineer to join their pre-sales team and support direct sales across North America. This is an opportunity to drive technical value in a hands-on, installation-focused environment where your expertise directly influences customer success and deal velocity.
The role sits at the intersection of sales and technical implementation. You'll work alongside sales representatives to qualify opportunities, deliver product demonstrations, design proof-of-concept deployments, and guide customers through technical validation. Unlike many SaaS-based pre-sales roles, this involves real hands-on technical work: installing software in customer environments, troubleshooting integration challenges, identifying configuration gaps, and ensuring the solution works in production networks. You'll also support the channel partner program by training resellers, enabling them with technical resources, and helping them succeed with their own customers.
This is not a backend role. You'll need to be comfortable with travel every other week for a couple of days, flexibility across different technical domains, and the drive to solve problems independently in smaller company settings where there's minimal documentation or formal process. The successful candidate balances technical competence with customer-focused problem-solving and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct discovery calls and technical assessments with prospective customers to understand their network architecture, security requirements, and use cases
- Deliver product demonstrations and proof-of-concept planning to customers, translating their requirements into technical validation activities
- Execute hands-on proof-of-concept deployments in customer environments, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and integration testing
- Identify and resolve configuration issues, identify gaps in customer setup, and communicate technical findings clearly to sales and customer teams
- Attend and speak at marketing events, webinars, and customer meetings to represent the product and build relationships
- Train and enable channel partners (resellers, integrators) by providing technical resources, conducting training sessions, and ensuring partner success
- Perform light account management during the post-sales transition, ensuring smooth handoff to support and implementation teams
- Own the technical narrative in sales cycles, qualifying opportunities and minimizing unnecessary demonstrations
Key Requirements
- Hands-on pre-sales or systems engineering experience at a vendor, system integrator, or reseller, ideally with products requiring installation and on-site configuration
- Proven ability to execute technical proof-of-concept deployments in real customer environments, troubleshoot integration issues, and handle ambiguous technical challenges
- Strong networking knowledge, including switches, routers, and Linux-based systems; Cisco experience is particularly valuable
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in smaller organizations or as a self-directed contributor, where you manage your own priorities and solve problems without extensive documentation or process
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences and translate customer requirements into technical approaches
- Comfort with travel every other week for a couple of days
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with sales representatives, customers, and internal teams
- Identity or OT (Operational Technology) background is a plus but not required
Experience with Docker, containerization, or security products is helpful but can be learned on the job by a strong technical learner.
